Whitby Regatta - No Red Arrows
Was I fed up or what. Just as Polly put me in the car to set off for Whitby Regatta, the heavens openend - big time. The Whitby skies went black and West Cliff was dotted with brave rain drenched individuals looking up to the skies waiting for the awesome Red Arrows. Then came the announcement - No Red Arrows. I though Polly was going to blub, but she restrained herself long enough to chit chat with a tourist whose head was buried beneath a beany hat. I stayed in the car, I'm not daft. I wasn't getting my paws wet if there was nothing exciting to watch. None of the rest of my gang where about anyway. So I snuggled on my red blanket and dozed off while Polly checked out the Tyne Tees tv van parked by the whalebones.
Now if I'd of thought I'd of got myself on the 6 oclock news, I'd have kicked up a fuss to get out of the car. But I'd seen the reporter collar a couple of unsuspecting tourists, then go back to the van. So stardom will have to wait for another day.
Folk Week Fun
Polly and I both enjoyed Folk week though. We walked all over Whitby one day it was great. I bumped into one or two of my doggie pals over on Church Street and Polly had a little sing song or two. She took a lot of photos of the street dancers and the general mood of the holidaymakers was happy. The Replica Endeavour sailed out as usual along with the Esk Belle.
Talking of the Esk Belle - the skipper contacted Polly last week by email. We didn't think dogs were allowed on - but guess what they are - that was great news - so there's another little adventure for you and your dog in Whitby.
Dark Nights
Dark nights are here now too. Polly started to put the fire on at night and we snuggle up as warm as toast on the settee. I always know when Autumn is here 'cos my walks are more brisk and Polly doesn't tend to natter to people so much. Talking is Polly's hobby. If there was an Oscar for talking, she'd win hands down. She even talks in her sleep, bless her.
Christmas Shopping
QVC are starting Christmas Card making and now keep talking about Christmas. I can't believe it. It seems 5 minutes ago since I had my new collar and lead and doggie treats. Polly's usually ahead of the game, but this year, she's a bit slow off the mark. In case her friend's are reading this and they don't know what to get her - I do. Matt Damon. Saturday night is the Bourne Ultimatum and Polly hasn't seen that one. She's like a love struck teenager on fizzy pops. Can you believe she has put it on the calendar, in her reminders on her mobile and written it on a large piece of paper by the kettle. Bourne is everywhere.
Just what has this bloke got. Whatever it is, Polly loves him (the fantasy), but she loves me more, so put that in your pipe and smoke it Matt.
Off now for a cuddle and snooze -

Dog beach ban begins
30 April 2010

Scarborough Borough Council would like to remind dog owners that the seasonal restrictions allowing dogs on the main tourist beaches in the borough commences on Saturday 1 May.
The restrictions, which prohibit dogs from certain stretches of beaches starts this weekend and lasts throughout the summer season until 30 September and applies to the following areas of beach:
- In Filey from Royal Parade to the beach slipway which separates the Coble Landing from the Promenade.
- Scarborough’s North Bay, from the northernmost beach slipway at the Sands development (former Corner Café) to the beach steps immediately to the south of the beach slipway at Scalby Mills.
- Scarborough’s South Bay, from the West Pier to the southernmost flight of steps leading to the beach at the roundabout adjacent to the underground car park.
- Whitby’s west beach from the West Pier to the east side of the beach steps, adjacent to the western end of the beach chalets.
- In Sandsend, from the steps below the public conveniences at Sandhills to the slipway at the southern end of Bank Bottom car park.
The above locations are clearly signed as dog ban areas and dog owners are reminded to avoid these areas from 1 May. All other beaches within the borough are available for the exercising of dogs during this period, although of course dog fouling ‘clean up’ requirements apply to these areas.
